New Beginnings

The month of January is a time for making New Year’s resolutions. One of my goals this year is not to miss early morning meditation. My role model is Brahma Baba. This soul used to wake up at 1am to do meditation every day for 34 years without fail. It is good to set goals and aspire to be better. If we don’t aim high then how can we achieve?

They say it takes 21 days to make a new habit firm. It requires determination, will power and the power to transform.

Visualisation is a good way to encourage yourself. Imagine what it would look and feel like to be achieving that goal. Believe in yourself! Trust yourself! Don’t be afraid to be successful.

When you experience obstacles in life it is due to the lack of the power to transform.

Here at the Brahma Kumaris we believe that one of the faculties of the soul is sanskars or personality traits. When a habit is repeated, the sanskar deepens. It takes faith in the self and happiness to transform yourself and the sanskars.

I have been reading a book called “the Spiritual Powers of the Soul”. There it is explained that for self-transformation all you need to do is be aware of the point form. That means considering yourself to be a soul, a point of light in the centre of the forehead. The seven true qualities of the soul are peace, love, happiness, purity, wisdom, power and bliss. The soul is separate from the body and is the driver of the body. The soul is also known as the living being and the sentient light.

Over time we have all become body conscious and forgotten  that we are the soul. Due to believing that we are the body, we have picked up weaknesses along our journey and become full of the five fives of anger, lust, ego, greed and attachment.

By considering yourself to be a soul and not the body you will regain self-mastery and feel peaceful all the time. By creating peaceful vibrations when faced with obstacles, the soul becomes full of virtues.

To transform the self we also need to take power from the One by remembering Him. It is no good simply remembering Him at a time of need. We need to develop the practice of remembering Him constantly throughout the day to build up and absorb powers. Then at a time of need He will help you.

Another exercise you can do to remove your weaknesses is to imbibe good qualities during early morning meditation. You could use positive affirmations or visualisation to imagine yourself having the opposite of the weakness.

“If there is the power of transformation of the self, wherever you are there will be success.” If you wait for others to change before you change, this is known as being selfish and the other soul will never change.
